IPP prisoner Taylor has been moved to segregation unit in HMP Downview.
Segregation units seriously impact the mental health of prisoners, with 23 hours out of every 24 spent in solitary confinement. It is widely known that segregation increases the rates of depression and risk of self-harm for people.
Taylor has a long history of self-harm in prison. IPP sentencing doesn’t give prisoners a release date, this combined with the ongoing neglect, abuse, transphobia and general trauma of the prison system has slowly destroyed Taylor’s mental health.
