This weekend is exactly 3 months since the Bristol-based EDO Decommissioners entered and wrecked the EDO/MBM ITT factory in Brighton, in an attempt to prevent greater war crimes occurring in Gaza and elsewhere. Since then there has been solidarity with them in Bristol – benefit gigs, meetings, petitions, graffiti, flyposting & flyers, a prison solidarity picket at Bristol prison, and unconfirmed reports of property damage against weapons manufacturers and the state. Down in Brighton the Smash EDO campaign continues apace, alongside solidarity with defendants including fundraising and attacks on property.
This weekend and over the next few weeks there are more solidarity and anti-arms trade events, starting with a benefit gig at the Plough pub in Easton, from 8pm tonight. Why not pick up a classy fundraising t-shirt for the Decommissioners campaign? Full details on the Decommissioners website. Then there is:
Sat 18 April – picket of Bristol prison in solidarity with the EDO 2 still on remand, locked up without a trial. Meet from 3pm on corner of Cambridge Rd/Gloucester Rd, Bishopston, BS7. Bring some noise! This picket has added anger after 1 of the EDO 2, Elija (James) Smith, was found guilty at Yate court this week of aggravated trespass during actions against raytheon, in Frenchay, late last year. Trial details here and here.
Sat 25 April – city centre vigil against police brutality. Meet 3pm opposite the Hippodrome. Called by the EDO Decommissioners, and supported by Bristol Stop the War and others, this has been called in response to the brutal attacks on Ian Tomlinson and many others at the G20 protests in London on 1 April. May 1 to 3 – Mayday Everyday – 3 nights of punk rock raising funds for the EDO decommissioners and the Israeli group Anarchists Against The Wall. Its all at Chesters, in Frogmore St, Bristol BS1.
May 4 – Mayday Mayday – mass street party against war & greed, and against EDO. Meet 12 noon in Brighton. Full details.
Solidarity!? Just do it.
