Bristol ABC will be holding our monthly letter writing night at Kebele this Sunday.
We will have our prisoner list ready as well as stationary galore… so come along if it’s your first time writing or if you regularly correspond with folks on the inside.
There will also be a delicious vegan meal available thanks to the Kebele cafe!

Marco Camenisch: parole denied
The Zurich Office of Corrections denied the conditional release of Marco
Camenisch. The 60 years old eco-anarchist prisoner is incarcerated since
20 years. At present, he’s in the prison of Lenzburg, Switzerland.
This January he went on a limited hunger strike to protest against the
annual ‘World Economic Forum’ in Davos – a disgusting gathering of
self-declared business and world leaders, culture industry wankers like
Bono, and assorted rich arseholes. Two anarchist prisoners joined Marco’s
protest: Silvia Guerini (prison of Hindelbank) and Luca ‘Billy’ Bernasconi
(prison of Regensdorf).
This year Marco Camenisch has served 2/3 of his prison sentence. As a rule
prisoners in Switzerland are entitled to an early release on parole after
serving 2/3; Marco is not.
There should be a ‘hearing’ on his parole in February. But the Zurich
Office of Corrections informed his lawyer, they wouldn’t ask Marco any
questions at all – they simply wouldn’t release him. End of the story. The
‘hearing’ is but a farce. Marco will stay behind bars because he doesn’t
renounce. He remains steadfast in his political beliefs.
5 years ago a public prosecutor, Ulrich Weder, a member of Swiss Labour
(SP), tried to get Marco sentenced to indefinite incarceration. Asked for
his reasons, Weder said: But why, that’s an anarchist! Furthermore the
Zurich Office of Corrections refused Marco’s prison leave several times
for no other than political reasons. In preparation for parole, every
prisoner is entitled to a prison leave; again, Marco is not.
We ask everybody to take appropriate action in solidarity with Marco
Camenisch!

Who is Marco Camenisch?
In the late 1970s Marco Camenisch (b. 1952) was a militant of the popular
movement against nuclear power stations. He was arrested in 1980 and
subsequently got a 10 year prison sentence for attacks against the Swiss
nuclear industry. Luckily, he was able to escape. In 1989 corporate media
and Swiss secret services accused him of murdering a border police
officer. Marco rejectetd these claims. In 1991 he was arrested again, this
time in Italy, and convicted for acts of sabotage against the nuclear
industry. In 2002 he was extradited to Switzerland and sentenced to an
additional 18 years of prison based on a dubious murder charge (the border
copper). Though afterwards, the Swiss Federal Supreme Court declared the
sentence inadmissible. In 2007 it was reduced to 8 years. As late as 2018
they must release him. Marco describes himself as a green anarchist. He is
a very active and sincere supporter of left and progressive social
movements; also, he took part in numerous protests behind bars.

Demonstrate outside the Bulgarian Embassy in solidarity with Jock Palfreeman the young Australian man who was set up by the Bulgarian police and criminal justice system after he stepped in to stop an attack on a young Roma in December 2007. Jock Palfreeman was sentenced in December 2007 to 20 years in Bulgaria’s notorious Sofia Central Prison.

HMP Bristol NYE 2011 Prison Solidarity Demo
The evening started with a group of 20-25 people marching up Gloucester Road, Bristol to HMP Bristol in Horfield. They arrived at the Golden Lion Pub at 11.20pm and began to circle the outside of the prison. Once the group had reached the other side of the prison where inmates could see and hear the group they stopped.
“Happy New Year” and “Fuck the Screws” was chanted over the walls. Fireworks were fired into the prison courtyard. People then climbed up onto an outer wall and made noise by hitting the fence with hands feet and rocks.
Around midnight the first police vehicle arrived with 2 officers who came over to talk to the crowd. Everybody stood their ground and the soundsytem was then led away from the police to prevent them from nicking it. Another police vehicle then arrived with 3 more officers who quickly came over to the two other officers who by this time were surrounded, whereupon without warning they began to pepperspray people in the face and take people to the ground with batons in their hands. During this time more police vehicles arrived. A few people were hit with batons. Some stood trying to de-arrest others and support their mates who had been pepper-sprayed. Once the majority of the people had realised that the police had taken control of the situation people decided to remove the soundsystem and themselves from the area. People got away but 4 were arrested. Each arrestee had an individual vehicle to themselves.
As people were retreating shouts and banging (presumably from inmates) could be heard from within the prison walls, and the floodlights and hall-lights all lit up.
At the moment all the arrestees are out. One person was released charged with assault of a police officer, one was charged with obstruction of a police officer, one person was charged with various crimes including assault on a police officer, section 5 and criminal damage to a police video camera (which would hold evidence to the whole situation), the last person was held until late evening on the 1st of January 2012 due to not complying with the police. They all have unconditional bail.
People heard at the police station that there was a backlog of arrests because trouble had flared at a new years free party which the officers said they’d had to retreat from because of the large numbers of ravers they faced.
People stood outside Trinity Police station until all the 4 arrestees were released the next day.
John Bowden in Solitary Confinement in HMP Shotts
UPDATE: John is now out of solitary and has been transfered to yet another wing of the prison as he still refuses to submit to the prison authorities vindictive attempts at coercion. He would gladly receive any messages of support or other correspondence.

John Bowden has been put into solitary confinement in HMP Shotts in Scotland. This was done after allegations that he was part of the “jail-wide” organisation of a sit down protest in the exercise yard, despite the fact that there was no evidence, the apparent protest did not take place and no-one else was punished for the “jail-wide threat”.
Despite the recent recommendation by the parole board that John Bowden be moved back to an open prison, the Scottish Prison Service, earlier this year, transferred him to Shotts, the most secure prison in the country. This was a blatant punishment move, one of hundreds John Bowden has undergone since he was imprisoned in 1978 – YES 1978!
By ‘coincidence’ the governor of Shotts, Ian Whitehead, was previously governor of Castle Huntley open jail, where John Bowden (and the Anarchist Black Cross) was the victim of an orchestrated campaign of lies in which an American psychologist, Matt Stillman, smeared the ABC as a “terrorist organisation” with which John was in contact.
After a robust campaign led by Leeds ABC, and by John himself of course, the Scottish Prison Service were forced to climb down, and Stillman’s career was ruined. John has never been forgiven for having the courage and integrity to stand his ground, and the SPS have not forgotten how they were humiliated.
Once again, we ask comrades to help shine an international spotlight on SPS abuse, and to support John in his long battle for freedom.

Anti-fascist murdered in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine
18th of November 2011, 17-year old anti-fascist Mikhail Norokha was murdered in Dnepropetrovsk of Ukraine. His body was found 8 meters from an abandoned, 16 floor house. He died due to multiple fractures and internal bleeding, which resulted from a fall. Although he fell onto his back, his nose was broken and he also had scratches in his face. Also, there were traces of pepper spray in his clothes, and his coat was torn, which is additional proof that this was not a suicide. Also, Mikhail had his mobile phone, documents and money left with him – the murderers took nothing from him.
Mikhail was assaulted by Nazis many times in the past. He has been stabbed twice during the last couple of years. However, he was never afraid of anyone and he was always standing up for his opinions, even if someone disagreed. Although he was often in trouble in vicinity of the local football stadium, he continued to support his favorite club.
Mikhail worked as an assistant of a priest. Currently, the police are investigating the case. There is no any evidence about the murderers, but anti-fascists of Dnepropetrovsk are certain, that this tragedy was caused by Nazis. We are doing everything we can to find out the truth, and to punish the perpetrators.

November Prisoner List
November has been a busy month and we have seen the forces of global capitalism attempting to tighten their grip and control – murdering the planet and stepping on a lot of us along the way. Their so-called solutions to the economic crisis seem only to be streamlining and intensifying the power of capital. Many are not fooled and have been rising up! Folks have been inspired by the Occupy movement, unions are out on the streets (if only for a day), travellers and friends have resisted violent eviction at Dale Farm, campuses have been occupied as students continue to rebel, Maggs & Allen estate agents offices have been attacked in solidarity with those protesting gentrification and the Factory eviction , Santander bank was attacked in Bristol, and much more… and after all this there are still folks inside who need our support and solidarity.
Bristol ABC does montly letter writing nights, or you can take a few minutest to write someone a card (but remember that whatever you say can be read by the screws).

Support Imprisoned Comrades: The Toronto G20 “Main Conspiracy Six”
On November 22, 2011, six of our friends pled guilty to counselling charges for organising to disrupt the Toronto G20 summit in June, 2010. On November 28, 2011, Erik Lankin, Adam Lewis and Peter Hopperton were each sentenced to 3-5.5 months in jail. Leah Henderson expects to be sentenced to 10 months on December 20, 2011. Mandy Hiscocks expects to be sentenced to 16 months on January 13. Alex Hundert expects to be sentenced to 13.5 months, date to begin TBA.
